Morality

Morality determines how strong (or weak) a Highroller moral compass is. Your Morality represents your moral compass, belief system and serves as a measure of your sanity. Mechanically it determines when you must make degeneration checks and the cost of buying off derangements with XP. Additionally there are Powers that directly effect the target’s Morality.

Morality systems work on a scale from 1-10. Your Morality score represents how strong a characters Moral compass is. A character with 10 Morality is a (perhaps overly) righteous character whilst a character with 1 Morality is truly deranged.

Humanity

The default system of morality in House Games is Humanity. Though there are other Morality systems in House Games; you begin with Humanity unless you buy a trait that says otherwise. It can be thought of as the standard Western Value system.

HumanityAction
10Allowing any of below actions to occur
9Deliberate emotional injury to another
8Deliberate physical injury to another
7Petty theft (shoplifting)
6Grand theft (burglary)
5Intentional, mass property damage (arson)
4Impassioned crime (manslaughter)
3Planned crime (murder)
2Casual/callous crime (serial murder)
1Utter perversion, heinous act (mass murder)

If you act contrary to your ethics you must make a Degeneration check. For an example, lets say a Highroller is using the Humanity Morality and have a score of 7. Every time that Highroller commits theft, property damage, manslaughter or murder they must make a degeneration check. This is not a comprehensive example but should illustrate to you how the system works.

A Degeneration check occurs when you act contrary to your ethics, as determined by your morality score. During a Degeneration Dheck you must roll Conviction (typically difficulty 6-8). If you fail your Morality will either drop by 1 point or you will gain a derangement as appropriate. If you botch you may gain both or two derangements, at the discretion of the Storyteller. If you consistently act against your ethics a Storyteller may rule you automatically forfeit a point of humanity.

When you reach a morality of 0 points you will bounce back to a rating of 1, gaining a derangement. Some traits and effect can cause increased Degeneration checks, or could even doom your character to insanity should you reach 0 Morality.
